2.  Know your Body Type:  Are you an Apple, Pear, Ruler, Inverted Triangle or Hourglass.  Understanding your body type helps with the most flattering layering possibilities.  I suggest layer with caution when it comes to bulky items,  Below I would of removed the denim shirt.

Layering Clothing is fun, looks very chic and stylish and fundamentally can keep you warm this Fall.  Good Luck and remember the tips and work with your tool box!!

White Out

Wearing white is so sexy, fresh, and fashionable.  It is timeless.

I remember watching Love Story at least 30 years ago and seeing Ali Macgraw wearing a white tee and white shorts.

love story That visual never left me.  And to this day everytime I see all white in a fashion spread, store or someone on the street I always stop and take notice and admire.

While on my last trip to Boston this display at Nordstroms caught my eye and inspired me

So can we all wear white ? No matter what shape or size we are?? No!!!

I say no immediately thinking about all my beautiful Autumn Palette clients.  A redhead does not wear white!  It bleaches her out, thus cream is her “white”

What I am talking about is warm vs cool in reference to colors that flatter you!

I also say  if you are a body type that is an apple, hourglass, or pear the rule of thumb would be to wear darker colors on the bottom.

A few additional tips to remember:

1.  Soccer Thighs or  Voluptuous Derriere- yes you can still wear white but…

Make sure the fabric is heavy and drapes beautifully.   Watch for  pockets that show the seams. That is a no no.   Also a cascading top floating past your vulnerable areas will be flattering and wear some heels!

057-spring-2015-trends-neutrals

2.  If you are top heavy rather than bottom heavy wear white on the bottom, darker colors on the top.  This will even you out.

I pinned this outfit on Pinterest at least a year ago and I continue to see it coming thru the stream.   I am not the only one noticing this amazing outfit!

I presented a “Shorts” workshop last year and this was one of the visuals.  If you don’t like your thigh area then wearing Bermudas will cover up and solve that problem.  By wearing a gorgeous ornate top not only does it distract from the bottom but brings attention up to your face.  This strategy would be a win win.  Dont forget to wear some heels.  If you are screaming at me now for that advice, perhaps a wedge?

Zara 2014.  Love a white suit!!!

Classic, Daring and Edgy– You have to have confidence to pull this off.  Notice the beautiful drape of the pants.
Drape in white pants is so elegant.  Ladies if you are tall  do your self a fashion favor and go get some drapey white pants!

Ladies if you are not tall, go get some ankle pants, heels and you can still rock the white pant suit look!

In conclusion wearing white psychologically makes us feel good. White represents cleansing and new beginnings White is innocent and pure . White adds and creates space. Putting on a white blouse feels like being given an opportunity to start the day with a clean slate

I think we can all relate to that vibe from time to time versus are dark friend  “black”.  In months to come  I will address the color black but for now white is right.

Part 6 Make Over of the Year: The Facial and Makeup Lesson

The Makeover of the year with the winner Jodi Netzer  is more than I could of ever imagined!!!  Everyone involved is absolutely 100% on board and I couldn’t be happier.  Jodi and I now are headed to Blue Mercury which generously donated a facial and makeover for the promotion.  Blue Mercury is a boutique Beauty Bar and Spa located at La Encantada  and what a luxurious day ahead for Jodi.

The Facial:057

Nancy Matherne was Jodi’s facialist and took care of Jodi with caring hands.  Jodi has been  negligent with a skin care regime, so Nancy educated her on Skin Care 101 and Jodi being the awesome student that she is listened diligently and was ready to make some changes for her daily at home beauty routine. See the smile she is willing and ready!   A new habit takes 21 days for success.
078Nancy discovered that Jody had very sensitive skin and it showed with flakiness and red irritation. Jodi also has dehydrated skin and needs moisture.  She was using water, soap occasionally, coconut oil  and that is it. It will take time for her skin to acclimate to being taken care of!!!

Products that were used to calm and cleanse were Skinceuticals Gentle Cleansing Cream followed by Dermalogica Rice Enzyme Daily Microfoliant.  Ingredients include Green tea, Ginkgo, and salicylic acid that would lift the flakiness, calm, and sooth.  Nancy also used Skinceuticals Hydra Balm to massage and finish with Skinceuticals Physical UV Defense SpF 30 Sunscreen.
062Jodi’s eyebrows were a little unruly so Nancy took the liberty to trim them and shape them up a bit.067 And for all of us who have had a facial,  I think you will agree— the massage is the best part— YES?????? Jody is in sleepy bliss land064.075The Makeover lesson and application was given by Heather Van Houten.  With  years of experience, Jodi was going to glow and look flawless after Heather’s touch.  Heather chose Nars nude collection and added  a bit of  beachy natural look

079Concealer is in my vocabulary and mandatory for a polished eye. Dark Circles? Puffy?  God forbid you didn’t get all your beauty sleep?  CONCEALER!!!!!
087 Dab Dab Dab, Heather is working her magic089 Jodi hasn’t seen the final results but can sense it is all good! Her makeover is coming along quite nicely! Heather used a tint moisturizer with Sunscreen, blush, sheer powder,  the nude eyeshadows from Nars, Mascara.  Her lipstick is a pale pink- very sexy in my opinion.  I am a red lip gal so I like to see the alternative!095

The Celebration of feeling gorgeous!  Wow!!!!

098 Jodi’s outfit  was purchased at Buffalo Exchange a few days ago on her shopping Spree, part of the Makeover of the Year.

Wool and the Gang Knit Vest, Black Cami, Sparkle Leggings and Walter Steiger Black Boots.  I am impressed and a proud Stylist today!

I am wearing Lafayette Burgundy Suede Jacket, Zara Rose Blouse and Zara Jeans, Vince Camuto Leopard Booties.

109Jodi is clearly turning into a glam rock star and I am loving every minute of it!  Next up is  the Final Photo Shoot  and oh— a surprise bonus with her ultimate makeover!!! Stay tuned  it just keeps getting better!151

Layering Clothing is fun, looks very chic and stylish and fundamentally can keep you warm this Fall.  Good Luck and remember the tips and work with your tool box!!

I’m into Leather

One of my favorite quotes in a movie is:  “ I’m into leather” in Woody Allen’s Annie Hall.  I have watched this movie at least 20 times and It makes me laugh every time.  Yes I confess I am into leather too!   The quote in the movie comes early as the young Neurotic Alvy Singer reflects on how his old school classmates turned out.

“I run a profitable dress company”

“ I’m President of the Pinkus Plumbing Company”

“I was a heroin addict now I’m a methadone addict”

“ I’m into leather”

If you haven’t seen this movie I highly recommend it.  It’s a classic and won Best Picture.

I am so into leather this fall that I have been hunting and gathering in a very determined manner.  I was very lucky to find some amazing pieces at Buffalo Exchange, Dillard’s and Zara online.  I decided to indulge myself and have a little fun with my leather purchases by having my husband take some photo’s in the Tucson Desert Wash .

Zara Patent Leather Boots. As with handbags, quality is so important and boots play up a sophisticated side to any outfit with just a tiny hint of edginess.

Circa 80’s Italian  Plum Leather Dress-  This is a lot of leather!

Bagatelle Vanilla Leather Moto Jacket – Super Chic and Edgy

Vince Camuto Camel Booties, Wilsons Pelle Brown Glazed Skirt and a Classic Coach Bag with no C’s on it – Just the way I like it.  ALL LEATHER!Escada Indigo Blue Skirt with White Stitching.  The leather is so soft and buttery- this is when you realize what Quality is!

Trina Turk Leather Vest– Very Fitted

Arden B Leather Sash/Belt. So simple but making a grand statement.

Leather Gloves with Fur.  Mac n Jac Black Blazer and Kenneth Cole Black Skirt, Moda Spana Black Booties. Power Suit of 2012.

Perhaps I have inspired you to add a piece or two of leather to your wardrobe. So on that note go thru your magazines and catalogs, get some ideas and visuals and before you know it you might even say out loud  “ I’m into Leather”!

Scoring Shoes on Ebay

Shopping for shoes on Ebay is one of the easiest ways to go about getting designer shoes at a fabulous price.   All you need to know is what designer you want and your size.  For example my husband loves Tsubo’s ; a sporty mens shoe.  Since he knows he is a 9.5 he just types in Men’s Tsubo’s 9.5 and voila up pops up a stream of at least 15 choices.  He bids on the ones he wants, rarely is there any bidding wars, the auction ends and 2 weeks later he has his shoes delivered to the front door.  Victory!  Also, there are so many auctions that have Buy Now if you agree with the price of the seller you just click the button and you win automatically. Victory!

In today’s Ebay Market I personally believe it is a buyer’s market , not a seller’s market.  There are so many people selling that rarely are there  bidding wars which means the price doesn’t move so you always get a great deal. Some of my favorite designer’s are: Stuart Weitzman, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Vince Camuto, Joan and David, Bally, Giuseppe Zanotti, and  Prada.

One of my lovely clients decided to do some shoe shopping on Ebay.

She particularly loves Cole Haan’s, they fit her foot well and she knows she is always a size 8 when it comes to Cole Haan.

She was looking to build her shoe wardrobe and also replace a pair of booties that her dog Jack decided to eat, chew and destroy. Jack is lucky Melissa has such a forgiving kind heart!

Let’s just say Melissa’s Ebay shopping was a total success and her average price per shoe was $20.00.  She bought 11 pairs.  What a deal!

1.  2 Pairs of Cole Haan Black Booties- Avg Retail Price $250

2.  The Cole Haan Line Up- Avg Retail Price $200-$300

3.  Donald Pliner Line Up- Avg Retail Price $200- $300

4.  Cole Haan, G Series and Naturalizer – Avg Retail Price $100-$250

The  Grand Shoe Showcase!

Good Job Melissa, as I always say “You can never have enough shoes!”
